Never make cakes on Friday! This is what I learnt today...
I have been waiting for this day for a while, thinking about how I would make this cake for my Mum's special day. I new it was not going to be an easy one but for some reason I thought I would manage. Well... When you are very tired on a Friday afternoon it is definitely not wise to start such an experiment! Even though I knew I needed some special thickened cream for the filling not just an ordinary one you can get in every shop, I assumed the one I got in our local 'supa' store would just as well do. With loads of melted white chocolate it cannot possibly fail... I've become much wiser since and I think this tells everything so I'm not going into details on how it didn't work out, how the cake started to slip apart, how much I was longing for a shot of 'palinka' at that moment and how I tried to rescue the job... First attempt: result looked satisfactory so I carefully placed the cake in the fridge and asked my boys to pray for the cake to stay in one piece. That incredible seventh sense made me check upon the cake once more before I left the scene... (Maybe I should check on it again because I'm not sure what might happen after all that poor cake has gone through?!) Never mind, second attempt: result looked satisfactory so I carefully placed the cake in the fridge and could not ask my boys to pray for the cake to stay in one piece since they'd fallen fast asleep by that time. So I pray... (I just checked, it's still in one piece which is promising!)
Mum, hope the cake will survive the next 20 so hours and I can give it to You on your special day!
For safety's sake I took some photos ;-) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
